History

With 20 years’ experience, the Powabyke range of electric bikes has evolved from the early pioneering days of heavy lead-acid batteries and steel frames into lightweight, nimble alloy frames with powerful lithium battery technology.

In 2018 Powabyke celebrated its 20th anniversary and now offers a range of electric bikes to suit every budget, with the Shopper E100 starting at just £699.

With over 45,000 Powabykes sold, the brand has proved itself as a no-nonsense, reliable electric bike company and remains committed to service—both for new sales and for the many thousands already on the road. With the UK-designed conv-e electric conversion kit (introduced in 2010), we can convert customer-owned standard bikes to electric, and the crank-drive e-bikes from MBM offer even more for riders who want the next step up.

With full spares backup at our combined warehouse and office near Bristol, we’re proud to be one of the longest-established electric bike brands in Europe.

Team

Both Frank and Keith believe that service is key to supporting dealers and Powabyke owners. They take a hands-on approach to keeping even the oldest Powabyke models operating at their best, while continually innovating with new models and improvements.

UK sales are managed by Frank Curran and Keith Palmer, who have a long history in electric bikes.

Frank joined Powabyke in 2000, in the early days of e-bikes, focusing on sales of the first models (Shopper and Euro). He built a loyal UK dealer base and became top salesperson within a twelve-strong team. He spent over four years on the road visiting dealerships, creating a large number of stockists, and remains on first-name terms with many. His knowledge comes from years of face-to-face work with shop owners and customers, plus numerous exhibitions and shows.

Keith joined Powabyke in 1998 at the very beginning. He has seen and helped shape growth from the first imported e-bikes through to today’s XBYKE range. His design work is evident across Powabyke models and the wider industry. In 2010 he founded WAW Associates Ltd and developed the conv-e conversion kit, now sold through Powabyke.
